The Jacksonville Area Golf Association (JAGA) raised a record $20,000 Oct. 29, 2018, at its 16th annual Scholarship Golf Classic. The event, sponsored by Nader’s Pest Raiders and hosted by Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, had 104 golfers participating in a four-man scramble on the Ocean Course.
The money raised goes a long way toward supporting JAGA’s Scholarship Trust program, which currently provides financial aid to 25 students who represent 16 JAGA-member clubs and 15 different colleges in and outside the state of Florida. Since the Trust was formed in 1974, JAGA has awarded approximately $1.75 million to more than 300 deserving area students who aspire to earn college degrees.
Former JAGA president Adair Roberts (2014-15) of Ponte Vedra Inn & Club chaired the event with Randy Nader of Sawgrass Country Club serving as co-chair. The event was launched by another former JAGA president, the late Bill Black (1993-94), and carries on in his honor today.
Established in 1954, JAGA celebrates its 65th year in 2018. It is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (4) corporation comprised of approximately 40-member golf clubs located in the Northeast Florida area. JAGA’s mission is to promote golf and goodwill through tournaments and related events and activities. It conducts 11 tournaments, including six championship events and five others that feature team formats. JAGA manages a scholarship program that currently provides college funding for 25 area students. Since 1974 the program has generated approximately $1.75 million in financial aid to approximately 350 students.
