The United Way of Northeast Florida selected Girls Inc. of Jacksonville (GIJ) as one of 13 organizations to invest in by supporting programs that increase opportunities for stable employment as well as offer career readiness, job training and development services. GIJ will receive $85,000 annually for two years, totaling $170,000.
GIJ will use this investment to support a new extension to its high school program, Project Accelerate. It will also hire a full-time staff member to serve as a post-secondary success coordinator. Project Accelerate supports young women, ages 16 to 24, as they graduate high school, pursue post-secondary education and begin their careers. Through Project Accelerate, they attain relevant leadership and skills that will help them throughout their schooling and career. Four hundred girls and young women are expected to participate over two years. They will receive college and career readiness lessons, development and support.
