Feeding Northeast Florida (FNEFL) and Society of St. Andrew are hosting the 5th annual Citrus Drive. Over 500 volunteers are needed to help harvest fruit donated by local residents throughout the Jacksonville area. FNEFL hopes to rescue 40,000 pounds of fresh citrus that would otherwise be lost – and distribute it to partner agencies in the region, including food pantries, soup kitchens, and senior centers. Residents can also collect and drop off the fruit from their trees at the same locations until 1 p.m. that day.
People who want to volunteer to help pick fruit should call 904- or they can register online at www.feedingnefl.org/citrus
Volunteers will meet at one of five area locations in Jacksonville, where FNEFL employees will assign teams and they’ll receive instructions, collection bags and the tools they need to glean all the trees. The locations are:
Southside/Beaches– Chets Creek Church, 4420 Hodges Blvd
Arlington– Bethany Ministries, 8800 Arlington Expressway
Mandarin– Mandarin Presbyterian, 12001 Mandarin Rd
Orange Park – Calvary UMC, 112 Blanding Blvd
