TEA PARTY FOR EARLY BIRDS

September 15, 2019 @ 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Join Women Writing for (a) Change, Jacksonville for a sneak peek of our outstanding Fall Art Show, BIRDS.

Before the show open on Sept 20, this preview party celebrates one of the artist-writer pairs featured in the show: artist Emma Greenhill and poet Jenny Anderson. Emma will share the story behind her work and Jenny will read her poetry inspired by the show. Meanwhile, guests will partake in a lovely tea service featuring homemade cake, handmade teas and a collection of the group’s favorite tea cups.

The current art show, BIRDS, features six women artists and six women writers giving their “bird’s eye view” of the significance of birds in our community. Featured writer/artist pairs in the show include Jenny Anderson and Emma Greenhill, Shawana Brooks and Mary St. Germaine, Janessa Martin and Sylvi Herrick, Nancy Murrey-Settle and Penny Edwards, Alexa Naparstek and Lorn Wheeler, and Jennifer Wolfe and Suzanne Pickett. They range from an award-winning local high school student writer to an artist who recently hauled three 7-foot crows across America to spark conversations about migration and immigration.

Each pair uses poetry, art, essays, journals, and even a “bird-zine” to help connect with birds. In addition, the show is featuring a collection of works by other local artists on a “community wall,” providing a platform for more female artists.

Proceeds from tickets, art sales and journal sales will benefit Women Writing for (a) Change’s outreach programs in the community, including immigrants, incarcerated women and other marginalized communities.
