Great St. Johns River Campout

St. Johns RIVERKEEPER invites everyone to celebrate Earth Day this year on the St. Johns River!

St. Johns RIVERKEEPER and its partners have created a multi-faceted 3-day adventure for individuals and families to explore nature and the St. Johns River.  The Great St. Johns River Campout will take place Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22 and include opportunities for camping, hiking, birding, paddling, kids’ activities, advocacy training, sunset boat trip, music, food and more.

The public is invited to join us for three days, one day, or one activity. Meet St. Johns RIVERKEEPER staff, learn more about the river, and explore the local outdoors, as we celebrate Earth Day and the majestic St. Johns!

Friday 4/20

2:00 – 8:00 pm              Campsite Check-In (Registration Required)

3:00 – 5:00 pm              Early Evening Paddle on the St. Johns River (self-guided)

6:00 – 8:00 pm              Campfire Potluck

Saturday 4/21

8:00 – 10:00 am            Native Plant Hike with Florida Native Plant Society – Pawpaw Chapter

8:00 – 10:00 am            Bird Walk with Duval Audubon Society

8:00 – 10:00 am            St. Francis Trail Hike, 7.9 miles (self-guided loop)

8:00 – 12:30 pm            Kayak Cleanup with Explore Volusia (Registration Required)

10:30 am – Noon           Kids Hike and Activities led by St. Johns Riverkeeper education staff

10:30 am – Noon           Citizen Advocacy Training with Lisa Rinaman, St. Johns Riverkeeper, Clay Henderson, Stetson University Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience, Saundra Gray, Volusia Water Alliance

12:00 – 2:00 pm            Lunch at the St. Johns River Grille (on your own)

1:00 – 3:00 pm              Afternoon paddle (self-guided, or kayak/canoe rentals available at Hontoon Island)

2:00 – 3:30 pm              Hontoon Island Hike and Museum Tour (self-guided)

4:00 – 6:00 pm              Sunset Boat Trip with Blue Heron River Tours  ($20, must register by calling 386-873-4843)

6:30 – 8:00 pm              BBQ Dinner catered by Brian’s BBQ of DeLand featuring live music from Magda Hiller (Registration Required)
