An Arlington sports bar delivered more than bar bites and trivia for over 1,600 Special Olympics Florida athletes and unified partners this season. Special Olympics Florida – Duval County was chosen as the recipient of $10,600 raised by Cliff’s Bar & Grill during its 14th annual golf tournament, which took place at Hidden Hills Golf Club April 29.

This is the second year Cliff’s has chosen to gift local athletes with intellectual differences with the funds, and many athletes were in attendance at the tournament, helping pass out gift bags and watch for hole-in-ones. One local Special Olympics athlete, Ryan Luck, a silver-medalist in Golf at Special Olympics World Games in 2015, played the tournament with his own team.

“We are thankful to the wonderful staff and ownership of Cliff’s Bar & Grill as well as the participants and sponsors for partnering with us again this year. The participating golfers bring a spirit of fun and competition that rivals the spirit of our athletes. These funds will stretch throughout Jacksonville to help cover the costs of our growing program including coaches training, uniforms and equipment for new athletes,” said Jessica Ray, Director of Special Olympics Florida – Duval County.

Corporate sponsors for the event were George Moore Chevrolet, First Coast Signs and Great Atlantic Outfitters, as well as many local restaurants and businesses who donated as hole sponsors.

Special Olympics Florida – Duval County provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual differences, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship.  To get involved, visit www.specialolympicsduval.org.
