Truer words were never spoken when Jesus told his disciples, “The poor you will always have with you.” More than 2,000 years later, the poor continue to be a focus for the hundreds of charitable organizations which exist to serve and care for the homeless, the broken and the hopeless. From a simple meal and a safe place to sleep to medical care and addiction recovery, many nonprofits have endured for decades, even a century or more to ensure that the poor among us are not forgotten.
